I learned today that (1) live chickens are pricey, but (2) flour is pretty cheap. Also, I learned that I should never ever buy boiled corn still wrapped in its husk on the roadside -especially after noon- since while you can't really say when it was cooked, you can probably guess that it was yesterday which means it's "no good".
